Job Description
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for managing a crew by assigning, overseeing and guiding crew to maintain work flow, complete daily production plans and ensuring quality control and correct operation of equipment. Direct factory floor supervision. Monitors quality and progress of jobs within the department, completes necessary paperwork, evaluates employees and promotes a safe working environment. This is a swing shift position which means you will work on a weekly rotating schedule of all 8 hour shifts (1, 2, and 3).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises, oversees and guides production workers, quality assurance and technicians on crew. Ensures high level of productivity and contribution of each person on the crew.
- Supervise the production of quality product through continual monitoring of the line operation.
- Evaluates held ware using measures and controls, which meet quality and customer specifications.
- Check and report on production progress, while ensuring conformance to quality standards and customer requirements. Communicates the status of production to required departments.
- Instruct, train, and evaluate all production personnel. Perform periodic performance appraisals on crew personnel.
- Issues disciplinary action to union employees for attendance, plant rules, or other policy/procedure violations.
- Initiates transportation of packaging material and finished goods
- Completes all required shift paperwork. Ensure that periodic quality checks are performed. Make checks on inspection equipment for reliability and records findings on the appropriate forms.
- Samples containers by visually inspecting and manually gauging containers for nonconformance and records nonconformity on proper forms. Notifies operators and technicians so that corrective action may be taken.
- Support and supervise trouble shooting of machines and conveyor systems.
- Reviews and approves employee time punches in payroll system.
- Direct employees in identifying and correcting any unsafe conditions, eliminate avoidable accidents and improve plant safety performance. Observes all safety rules and regulations and performs job in a safe manner.
Qualifications
Education / Experience:
- Qualifications / Credentials: High School Diploma or Equivalent. College degree in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic field preferred.
- Prior work experience in supervision, preferred in a manufacturing environment.
Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrate ability to motivate, mentor, and coach personnel
- Demonstrate ability to use computer systems including Microsoft Office, SAP, and Email
- Demonstrate ability to contribute in a team environment showing resourcefulness, flexibility, and independent decision making
- Demonstrate ability to read, write, and understand instructions in English – maintain logs and records
- Demonstrate ability to perform arithmetical calculations
- Demonstrate ability to understand procedures in glass forming process
- Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and organizing skills
- Demonstrate ability to read and understand gauges, instruments and operate various machine controls.
